Signs your asthma may benefit from a review include:

• More frequent use of your reliever inhaler
• Waking at night with symptoms
• Symptoms interfering with daily activity or exercise

Key benefits:

• Ongoing support without always needing a GP appointment
• A practical check of your inhaler technique and triggers
• Helps you stay on top of your existing management plan

This service may be suitable if you:

• Have an existing asthma diagnosis and want ongoing support
• Have noticed you are using your reliever inhaler more often, waking at night with symptoms, or finding exercise harder than usual

This isn’t suitable for a new/undiagnosed asthma condition, or for an acute asthma attack — that needs urgent medical attention.

Asthma management plans are reviewed individually, and recommendations may change as your symptom control changes over time.

Your pharmacist will assess your individual suitability, including your relevant medical history and current symptoms, before proceeding. 

This service is for ongoing support of an existing diagnosis only. If you are having a severe asthma attack, seek emergency care immediately or call 000. 

Ask your pharmacist for the relevant Consumer Medicines Information (CMI) if a medicine is provided.

Before Your Consultation

Be prepared to discuss:

• Your current asthma symptoms and triggers
• How often you’re using your reliever inhaler
• Your current preventer or reliever medicines

During Your Consultation

Your pharmacist will review your symptom control and inhaler technique before discussing your ongoing management.

The consultation may also include practical advice on managing triggers, or liaison with your GP if your management plan needs review.

How is this different from just buying a reliever inhaler over the counter?

This consultation includes a proper review of your symptom control and inhaler technique, not just a product sale — it’s a check-in on how well your asthma is actually being managed.

What if I’m having an asthma attack right now?

This service is not for acute attacks — seek urgent medical care or call 000 if you’re having a severe asthma attack.

Will my GP be involved?

Your pharmacist can share relevant information with your GP with your consent, particularly if your management plan needs review.
