This service may be suitable if you:

• Have previously been prescribed the same hormonal contraceptive and need it resupplied
• Are continuing a method that’s working well for you and don’t need to change anything

This isn’t suitable if you have risk factors that need a full GP assessment first — for example, certain cardiovascular or clotting risk factors — or if you’re wanting to start a new contraceptive method for the first time, which needs a GP consultation.

Eligibility for the Contraception Resupply Consultation is confirmed by the pharmacist at your visit, and scope of practice guidelines may change over time.

Your pharmacist will assess your individual suitability, including your relevant medical history and current symptoms, before proceeding. 

This service is for resupply of a previously prescribed method only — starting a new contraceptive method needs a GP consultation.

Certain health risk factors also require assessment by a GP rather than a pharmacist consultation; your pharmacist will discuss this with you if relevant. 

Regular GP review for overall reproductive and general health is still recommended. 

Ask your pharmacist for the relevant Consumer Medicines Information (CMI) if a medicine is provided.

• Any medicines you are currently taking

During Your Consultation

Your pharmacist will review your health history and current method before determining whether resupply is appropriate.

The consultation may also include a resupply prescription where suitable, or a referral to your GP if your circumstances need a full assessment.

Can I start a new contraceptive method through this consultation?

No — this service only covers resupply of a hormonal contraceptive you’ve been prescribed before. Starting a new method needs a consultation with your GP.

Can I switch to a different contraceptive method through this consultation?

No — switching to a different method isn’t covered by this resupply service. Speak with your GP about switching methods.

What if I have other health concerns alongside my resupply request?

Your pharmacist will let you know if your situation needs a GP referral instead.
