A structured symptom review and support consultation for people already diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), delivered by a specifically trained pharmacist.

Signs your COPD may benefit from a review include:

• Increasing breathlessness with everyday activity
• More frequent flare-ups
• A persistent cough or increased phlegm

Key benefits:

• Ongoing support without always needing a GP appointment
• A practical check of your inhaler technique and symptom control
• Helps you stay on top of your existing management plan

This service may be suitable if you:

• Have an existing COPD diagnosis and want ongoing support
• Have noticed increasing breathlessness, more frequent flare-ups, or a persistent cough

This isn’t suitable for a new/undiagnosed condition, or for a sudden worsening of breathlessness — that needs urgent medical attention.

COPD management plans are reviewed individually, and recommendations may change as your symptom control changes over time.

Your pharmacist will assess your individual suitability, including your relevant medical history and current symptoms, before proceeding. 

This service is for ongoing support of an existing diagnosis only. If you experience sudden or severe breathlessness, seek emergency care immediately or call 000. 

Ask your pharmacist for the relevant Consumer Medicines Information (CMI) if a medicine is provided.

Before Your Consultation

Be prepared to discuss:

• Your current breathlessness andhow it affects daily activities
• How often you’re experiencingflare-ups
• Your current inhalers ormedicines

During Your Consultation

Your pharmacist will review your symptom control and inhalertechnique before discussing your ongoing management.

The consultation may also include practical advice on your currenttreatment plan, or liaison with your GP if it needs review.

How is this different from the COPD management plan my GP has already set up?

This consultation supports and complements your GP's plan with more frequent, convenient check-ins - it doesn't replace your regular GP-led care.

What is my breathing suddenly gets worse?

This service is not for acute deterioration - seek urgent medical care or call 000 if you're experiencing severe breathlessness.

Will my GP be kept informed?

Your pharmacist can share relevant information with your GP with your consent.
