School sores (impetigo) is assessed case by case, and treatment depends on how localised the infection is.

Your pharmacist will assess your individual suitability, including your relevant medical history and current symptoms, before proceeding. 

This consultation is for localised, uncomplicated impetigo only; widespread or recurrent infections, or if the person is generally unwell, need GP assessment. 

Ask your pharmacist for the relevant Consumer Medicines Information (CMI) if a medicine is provided.

The consultation may also include hygiene and school or childcare exclusion advice, alongside any prescribed treatment.

What if it keeps coming back or spreads widely?

Can my child go back to school on the same day as treatment?

Once treatment has started, many schools allow return after 24 hours — check your specific school or childcare centre’s exclusion policy.
